We’re raising funds to help the Taft middle school wind turbine engineering team attend the KidWind World Competition in Madison, Wisconsin. On March 12th, at the Oregon Renewable Energy Contest held at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, the team earned 1st and 2nd place for their wind turbine designs. Their hard work and creativity paid off, and now they have the chance to represent our community.
These students have poured their hearts into this project, using the full engineering design process researching, creating prototypes, testing, and redesigning to develop wind turbines that generate electricity. During the competition, both teams designed turbines that produced over 12 joules of energy in just 30 seconds! For many of these students, this will be their first time traveling across the country, visiting a major university campus, and competing alongside top young engineers from around the world.
We are raising funds to help cover travel expenses, lodging, and meals for the team. This is an amazing and well-deserved opportunity for these hardworking students, and your support would help so much. Thank you for supporting young students in STEM!
