Send 50 Parkland Students to DC

Donation protected
Edit - March 28
This campaign, which started 2 days after the MSD massacre, was originally aimed at flying 50 students to a face-to-face meeting at the Senate. But the students decided they did not wish to meet with Senators and wished to apply the funds raised to other requirements they had. And so they were given direct access to the $30,000+ that was donated to utilize as they wished.

This fund is now closed. The students and this organizer wish to thank all the donors who have supported the efforts of the MSD students. Thank you for the posted comments of support in addition.

There is a plan to have a post March For Our Lives fund to continue ongoing efforts. Once such a fund is established we will update this information to let you know where to find that campaign.

Support the kids of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida to FORCE the Senate to have a hearing on GUN CONTROL. Then let's fly Emma Gonzalez, Cameron Kasky, David Hogg, Jaclyn Corin, Alex Wind and other high school student spokespeople to Washington DC to look those senators in the eye and tell them first hand what happened and make them eliminate assault weapons and enforce better gun control.  Let's support these kids to force a change.

We have relatives that go to school in Parkland, Florida  not far from the High School.  We all want these kids to be heard. They will be encouraged to form a group for this senate hearing and the funds will be released to this group to fly up to DC, have a charter bus waiting for them to bring them to the senate, then return to the airport for their flight back to Parkland. They WILL make themselves heard.

We are awaiting a response from the Parkland kids who are organizing events,  to set up a bank account on behalf of this fund. All donations will be transfered directly to the account they set up. We are also asking for help in arranging to have this group of student speak in front of the Senate now that there are sufficient funds to send at least a subset of this group to Washington, DC.

EDIT - March 2

On February 17th, just 3 days after the horrible events at Stoneman Douglas High School, this fund was established to fly students to Washington for a face-to-face session with a Senate sub-committee or more of the Senate. Since then, the students started their own campaign called “March For Our Lives” to support their March 24th march on Washington.

With more than 50% of the targeted fund level reached for our fund, we started working toward getting discounts to enable more students to participate in this event. In addition we contacted the core student group as well as having discussions with the parents of one of the children killed in the massacre.

The students have made the decision that they do not wish meet with the Senate using these funds the donors have given to them. They felt the money would be better spent sending other local students to their March 24th event. And the family of the child who was killed, who have spoken out often in TV interviews, stated they would prefer the money was spent on securing schools than using it for political action.

As such, we are going to leave this campaign active, which recognizes your interest in the students having a Senate voice, but we ‎give each of our donors the option of moving their contribution to support the March For Our Lives, or getting a refund of their donation.

For those donors who wish their contribution to go toward the March For Our Lives event in DC on March 24, funds from our campaign will be given to that campaign with recognition that they came from here. If you would like to receive a refund, please contact GoFundMe directly before March 9 at 3 PM Eastern / noon Pacific: http://bit.ly/2qukHJP.

If you do not request a refund by March 9th at 3 PM Eastern / noon Pacific, the funds will be moved to the March For Our Lives campaign and appear on their campaign as a lump sum contribution by the Send 50 Students To DC campaign: https://www.gofundme.com/8psm8-march-for-our-lives

Contributions to this campaign after March 9th will be counted here but moved to the students March For Our Lives campaign.

We thank you for supporting this effort to have their voices heard in front of the Senate but ultimately it is the students' decision how they feel they can best achieve what they have set out to accomplish and in the way they wish to accomplish it. We are grateful to the hundreds of you that have shown your generous support of these students of Stoneman Douglas High School. The students will be given access to all of the comments posted in our campaign.

Your organizer,

Jay

EDIT 2 - March 10

Now that the refund window has passed, we are going to leave this campaign active, which recognizes your interest in the students having a Senate voice, but all contributions will be transferred to the GoFundMe campaign March For Our Lives which the students have requested. Your contribution made through this campaign will be noted as having come from here but moved to the student requested fund: https://www.gofundme.com/8psm8-march-for-our-lives

The organizer of this campaign has now provided the students organizing the March 24th march on Washington access to all of the funds contributed via this campaign.
