Hi, I'm Chris Schwartz, Head Instructor, Head Coach, and founder of Northwest Wado-ryu Karate in Moscow, Idaho. For nearly a decade, our dojo has been more than just a martial arts school. It's a family, a community, and a place where people of all ages transform through the power of Wado-ryu karate.

We focus on building discipline, focus, confidence, fitness, and real-life strength, especially for kids, teens, and families in Moscow, Pullman, and surrounding areas. We've watched energetic children grow into confident leaders, helped families bond through shared classes, and supported students facing challenges to thrive both on and off the mat. Our instructors pour their hearts into every lesson, treating students like family and celebrating every step of progress.

A huge part of that growth comes from competition. Our Northwest Wado-ryu team, led by dedicated coaches, has earned dozens of medals at regional events, national events, and international events. We've proudly represented the Northwest as the region's only WIKF-affiliated Wado-ryu school, with strong showings in kata, kumite, and team events.

Now, we're facing our biggest opportunities yet: the 14th WUKF World Championships in Cluj-Napoca, Romania July 22-26th. This is a huge opportunity and amazing culmination of Hayden's hard work. His selection by the AAU's committee for this tournament is a big milestone and goal he has been working toward for many year. Additionally the 12th WIKF Global Cup, October 20-26, 2026, in Athens, Greece, the birthplace of the Olympics. This prestigious international event brings together the world's top Wado-ryu practitioners for elite competition in kata and kumite, advanced training seminars, and celebration of the true WIKF spirit of unity, tradition, and passion. It's a once-in-a-lifetime chance to train, compete, and grow alongside the global Wado family.

Hayden Schwartz (our talented instructor, coach, and key team member) and I, along with several of our dedicated athletes, will represent Northwest Wado-ryu and Team USA at both tournaments. I will be coaching on the world stage, guiding our team through the competitions and seminars. We'll carry the hard work of our students, the support of our community, and the values we've built together onto the world stage. This trip isn't just about us. It's about inspiring our dojo family, showing what's possible through dedication, and bringing back knowledge to elevate every class and every student back home.
