Semeru Mountain in East Java Indonesia is one of the most active among Indonesia’s 120 live volcanoes. It has erupted 2,802 times so far this year.

Semeru Mountain has erupted yesterday (19 November 2025). The latest eruption of Mount Semeru, the tallest mountain on Java, Indonesia’s main island, began around 2 p.m. local time on Wednesday, the national geological agency said in a statement. The column of ash rose more than 6,500 feet above the peak, according to the Indonesian authorities.

Indonesia’s government has issued a Level 4 alert, its highest volcanic warning, for the latest eruption. It has warned people that lava and ash could spread as far as 12 miles from Mount Semeru. The national disaster management agency said 1000 people were evacuated from villages near the mountain, yet they have n't erected any tents. On Thursday early morning, people were going back to their houses to save their remaining stuff.

As for now (21 November 2025), there are no deaths, only 3 people were injured. One man with the burnt skin stage 1, then 2 people who were piled by the hot ashes from the mountains. They were already saved and cured in the hospital. On the other hand, there are hundreds of the houses torn down, bridges and buildings fell apart, people who needs medications and tents, as well as foods and clothes.
