Selyka Givan: 2025 Masters Olympia - “The Road to Tokyo”

Hello! I am a 46-year-old, passionate, professional, bodybuilding mom from Decatur, Georgia. Following my 2002 graduation from Agnes Scott College (where "Smart Women Sweat"), I spent years serving in ministry as an elementary school teacher, gym teacher, and Field Day Coordinator at a private, Christian school before transitioning to a career in Health & Fitness.

For the past 6 years, I have dedicated myself specifically to the art and discipline of bodybuilding (on top of maintaining a full-time job and personal training clients). My journey began in 2019 when I had reached 220 lbs (after recovering from thyroid surgery in 2018) but still held a burning desire to fulfill a long-time goal of mine to compete as a bodybuilder. It took 2 years to lose the excess weight and get competition ready.

Every day, I stepped into the gym inspired by so many of the great, legendary, female bodybuilders that I looked up to throughout and following my college years — such as Iris Kyle, Lenda Murray, Vickie Gates, Kim Chizevsky-Nicholls, Lesa Lewis, and Laura Creavalle. Just to name a few.

I quickly fell in love with the discipline and challenge of bodybuilding. Despite facing a bicep tear surgery (2020), a critical case of rhabdomyolysis (2022), and countless financial obstacles along the way — my commitment has never wavered.

As described by www.centerpodium.com: "The Women’s Bodybuilding Division is the most muscular and physically demanding category for women in the NPC."

From the start, I have competed exclusively in the WBB Division (Women's Bodybuilding).

Here are my achievements thus far...

AMATEUR HIGHLIGHTS: One year after stepping foot on a bodybuilding stage for the very first time, I not only earned my pro card by placing first (against 10 other competitors) in the Heavyweight Class (over 140 lbs), but also placed first Overall (out of 4 separate weight classes).

PRO HIGHLIGHTS: My first 3 years as an IFBB Pro athlete, I have been blessed with the opportunity to compete in a total of 4 regular season competitions. At every show, I have reached finals in the Open Category (all ages) and won first place in the Masters Category (age 40+). I was also honored in 2024 with an invitation to the extremely prestigious Rising Phoenix Women’s Bodybuilding World Championship where I reached the finals (top 6 athletes out of 12) and was awarded special recognition for posing as well.

OLYMPIA QUALIFICATION

I have earned qualifications to compete this year at the two most prestigious bodybuilding competitions in the world:

2025 OLYMPIA - For those who don't know, this annual event is essentially the Super Bowl / Olympics / World Cup of professional bodybuilding. It will be held in Las Vegas later this year.

2025 MASTERS OLYMPIA - Reserved for athletes age 40+ and only takes place every two years! It will be held in TOKYO, JAPAN on August 9-10, 2025.

I am thrilled about Las Vegas in October, but my training and attention is currently focused entirely on Tokyo!

To make this dream a reality, I need your help. The funds raised will cover:

- Airfare to and from Japan

- Hotel Accommodations

- Competition Photography

- Tanning, Makeup & Hair

- Other travel-related expenses: food, local travel, etc.

Your support will help me represent the United States, the State of Georgia, Atlanta, and share the inspiring power of female athleticism on an international stage.

My life's calling is to spread God's love, teach, and empower those with whom I come in contact. The road to Tokyo is yet another avenue for me to shine this little light of mine. Each donation brings me one step closer to this lifelong mission.
