We are raising funds to cover the costs of producing the world premiere of a new work of theatre. As you can imagine, at the end of a nearly two year industry shut down, this is no easy task.
Our goal is for Self Tape to have its World Premiere at Alchemical Studios in New York City, February 18-20th, 2022.
We are determined to realize this play with a live, COVID-safe production. But we need your help.
What is the play?
Self Tape is an award winning new play about the institutions that have allowed violent tendencies to persist within the entertainment industry.
Regardless of current media visibility, women are chronically and continuously abused in the workplace. Not only in Hollywood, not only in by titans of industry, but in every field, by powerful men at every level. We refuse to let these stories go untold.
Since its conception, Self Tape has received The New Playwright award from SWTP and made the top thirty from the Dubuque Fine Arts Players.
What will we do with your donation?
We are committed to a COVID-19 safe production, but those precautions do not come cheap. Some of the costs the production will incur include:
- COVID-safe Venue & Rehearsal Space Rental ($3,000)
- Living Wages for our entire team ($3,000)
- Air Filtration System ($500+)
- Regular at-Home COVID tests for the whole team throughout the rehearsal and performance process
- Accident insurance
What will the team do with the profit from ticket sales?
Our goal is to see this production realized. While we have a heavy fundraising goal, we do not intend to make any profit off the back of this project. Any and all revenue incurred will be donated to the women's advocacy nonprofit 9to5 , "one of the largest, most respected national membership organizations of working women in the U.S., dedicated to putting working women’s issues on the public agenda."
Can you tell me more about the play?
The text follows Anna, a young actress at the end of her rope during an on-camera masterclass with revered acting coach, Robert Keusch. Things quickly go awry as Anna’s desperation to give her best performance pushes Robert over the edge. What begins as a heated discourse spirals into deeper conversations about Robert’s checkered past and the institutions that have allowed his violent tendencies to persist.
