Hi! My name is Carrie Xiong and I’m fundraising to help with our little heart warriors open heart surgery.

Meet our little heart warrior, Selene KabLia Yang. Baby Selene was diagnosed with a Complete AVSD (Atrioventricular Septal Defect) at 29 weeks in the womb. In simple terms, Baby Selene has a hole in her heart. Baby Selene was born prematurely at 34 weeks on November 11, 2021. Although born early, she is strong and a fighter. Through her one month stay at the hospital after birth, Baby Selene did not required any oxygen or any other medical support. She came home at 4 weeks old and will be returning to undergo open heart surgery in April. The repair involves placement of one or two patches to divide the common valve into the right and left sides and close the holes in her heart.

Baby Selene’s heart surgery is scheduled for April 18, 2022 at Lucille Packard Childrens Hospital in Palo Alto, California. Baby Selene’s dad and I will be relocating to Palo Alto once again to be with our heart warrior before and after surgery. Although our health insurance will cover majority of the financial expenses of the surgery, there will be a high deducible portion to cover and lodging expenses to cover as we will be away from our home.

As our second time returning to the hospital, we’ve exhausted most of our finances. Once again, we will be leaving our home and jobs to be with our little heart warrior. We are asking your help to raise some funds to help with any remaining medical expenses and lodging expenses while away.
