Tausend Dank also im Voraus!

ENGLISH VERSION

A last year of life in self-determination and peace?

We are a group of close friends of the Berlin artist
and former Street Artist Daniel TAGNO Weißbach, whose story we would like to share with you on http://gofundme.com in the hope that with your support we will be able to give him the opportunity to spend the probably last phase of his life as bearable and self-determined as possible.

To be more precise: We would like to enable him to spend his probably last year of life in his familiar surroundings, at home, with his 8-year-old daughter and with us.

On the one hand, this requires relatively intensive home/professional care and, on the other hand, ideally complementary alternative treatment methods, which unfortunately are not part of the catalogue of care provided by Daniel’s health insurance company.

Who is Daniel and what is his story? Daniel is 44 years old and a very talented artist and father of an 8-year-old daughter. Daniel was first diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, a so-called third-degree astrocytoma, almost three years ago.

This uninvited and very aggressive guest in Daniel's head has become increasingly noticeable since 2016 through severe epilepsies and fainting fits, sometimes in shops or other public places. The subsequent medical and above all radiological examinations quickly brought the sad certainty that these are symptoms of a very serious disease - cancer. This was followed by chemotherapy and radiation, which initially seemed to have been successful.

Unfortunately, however, the tumour returned violently in September 2019 and led, among other things, to extensive paralysis of the left half of the body.

Since then, Daniel has been back in treatment at the Vivantes-Clinic Neukölln-Britz in Berlin, chemotherapy and radiation have been started again, but the treating oncologists are not very confident about the chances of success of the new maximum therapy and in the best case give Daniel one to one and a half more years of life.

Although the paralysis has decreased significantly since the beginning of the treatment and Daniel trains daily and takes up the fight with all his strength, unfortunately the doctors' very discouraging diagnosis remains. What the current maximum therapeutic efforts actually achieve can of course only be said for sure at the end and with MRIs. But for now Daniel has to face the devastating prognosis of the doctors every day without losing his courage completely... According to the current treatment, Daniel will be treated palliatively in hospital or in a hospice, according to the estimation of the treating physicians and the nursing supervisor.

Since we know from daily conversations with Daniel that he wishes for nothing more than to be able to fight this probably last battle at home and in the circle of his family and friends, we wish with all our heart to make this possible for him.

Even if Daniel’s health insurance would approve home care they would cover a maximum additional payment in the amount of 800 to 1300 Euro per month.

Due to the paralysis, however, Daniel is severely restricted and is permanently at risk of falling. For this reason, 24/7 care would be necessary for the time being to give Daniel the opportunity to spend his remaining time at home.

For this, a monthly contribution of about 2000 Euro would be required for care level 3 in order to be able to pay a caregiver appropriately. In addition, treatment costs to an unknown extent are still to be paid. If we could reach a donation amount of 30000 Euro together with you, this would be an immense help for Daniel and would give him a certain amount of leeway in shaping the coming year, which he is currently unable to do for financial reasons.

Even though the medical expertise of the specialists only gives Daniel little remaining time in his life, we sincerely hope that this time can be a good time for him and that he is at least somewhat free from the depressing worries about money.

Thank you very much for reading this far and for paying attention to Daniel's situation! Thanks to everyone who shares this campaign, spreads it or donates whatever amount of money. We are aware of how many such cases there are and how much it is worth to see the individual case, to help the individual. Many thanks in advance and from the depth of our hearts!
