As many of you know, Selah lost her father last year to Pancreatic Cancer. He died 63 days after diagnosis.

He could not be there when she turned 17, or when she graduated from Brooklyn Latin High School, or when she was accepted to Washington University in St. Louis with a full academic scholarship, or to drop her off on campus. It was a difficult journey getting through senior year, but she did so with courage and resilience, getting through college applications, rigorous academics, mourning her father, and the anguish of thinking of all the moments that could have been.
Dropping her off in St. Louis by myself was heart-wrenching the same week as Phil's anniversary. And yet we felt him there. An amazingly bright and vibrant rainbow that appeared on the one-year anniversary of his passing, a rainy day at the beach where we had gone to memorialize him, appeared again in all its splendor in St. Louis our first day on campus.

Although WashU has been extremely generous, the remaining costs and living expenses, at this juncture are daunting for me, as I have yet to return to work after Covid and have had to relocate over the summer to be with my mother. Unfortunately, we had no life insurance, and we had depleted our savings between covid lockdowns, chasing doctors for second opinions, and holistic therapies. And as if the cruelty of watching our beloved disappearing before our eyes were not enough, during Phil's illness, we learned that my mother had stage 4 lung cancer, and in the middle of college applications, we had to travel back and forth to Florida for several months as my mom began chemo.

I want to thank all the friends and family in advance for your support and for sharing this campaign with others. At this time, your donations of any amount will be a huge help and are greatly appreciated. We will keep you posted on her journey that you have helped make possible.

Selah is tracking for a double major, Cognitive Science & Machine Learning.
