Seizure response dog for Bethany
Donation protected
Bethany Giovannetti is 22 yrs old and was diagnosed with epilepsy at 18 years old during her first year at college. She continues to have a tonic clonic (grand mal) seizure once a week. She has no warning when the happen and has several injuries. On Christmas Day, she was straightening her hair and landed on her flat iron and severely burned her leg. She had a skin graft surgery which has failed and will be scheduled for another. She had to give up her dream of completing her music educatijn degree at Western Carolina. She lives at home now due to safety concerns but continues to take English classes online.
She applied for a free service dog, however was turned away. They don’t have enough dogs. Training for a service dog will cost $15,000-$40,000 plus the cost to buy the dog-$2,000+, and a fence $10,000. A seizure response dog will be able to turn her on her side, protect her head, and push a button to get help when she has a seizure. This will be an important step toward independence and peace of mind for her parents. We are looking for a golden or golden doodle that will be large enough to help her.
Any amount will help! Thank you for your prayers.
