The primary therapeutic application of Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) is for:
Epilepsy: VNS therapy can effectively reduce seizure frequency and severity in patients exhibiting poor response to medication.
Diagnosis: Partial symptomatic epilepsy with complex partial seizures, intractable, with status epilepticus.
On April 22nd, my son, Tommy, will undergo VNS replacement surgery at Wellstar Medical College in Augusta, Georgia. Dr. Frank Vale will implant a device designed for a lifespan exceeding three years. This will be his fourth VNS implantation since 2013. VNS therapy mitigates and/or halts his seizures, a condition he has experienced for 33 years. We have completed the necessary insurance verification processes.
In summary, to enable my 40-year-old son to maintain his current lifestyle—employment at Ingles Grocery Store, personal vehicle operation, and meaningful engagement with his two young daughters—we require financial assistance.
