Seizure Alert Dog Training for Eli

Hi,

My name is Eli. There are a few things you should probably know about me. First off, I am pretty hilarious. Everything I do is funny. My parents are always talking about how “rare” I am. I think they are talking about just how funny I am, but apparently I have a rare disease. It’s called Salla Disease. There are less than 200 people in the world diagnosed with it (including my older brother). While I may be funny, I am also really good at scaring my parents! Sometimes I have seizures that last for a REALLY long time. The doctor says I have Epilepsy, and my seizures are called Status Epilepticus. (Try saying that three times fast…) One time my mom found me seizing in my crib. They don’t know how long I was seizing before they found me, but apparently it was pretty serious. My dad says we were lucky we didn’t get a speeding ticket driving to the hospital. I’ve had two more of these seizures that last a really long time, even with the rescue medicine they put in my… never mind. We won’t go there. Now my mom and dad are always worried I am going to have another seizure, especially when I get sick. Just last month my mom and dad took turns staying up all night watching me sleep. (I think they just like starting at me because I’m so adorable.) Just the other day my mom and dad told me I am going to get a “fully trained seizure alert dog.” I don’t really know what that means, but they are pretty excited about it. We are getting the dog from a place called 4 Paws For Ability. My older brother has an amazing Service Dog (Markey) that came from there. My dog will be a little different because she will just stay at home. People would really stop and stare at us in public if they saw both of us with our walkers and dogs. I’m not sure people are ready for that. We have to travel to Xenia, OH in July to get trained on my awesome dog and then to bring her home. I am super excited! However, it is going to be kind of an expensive trip. So, if you have any extra pennies in your piggy bank that you would like to donate, that would be awesome. But it’s okay if you don’t.

I will leave you with a joke:

Why did the student eat his homework?

Because his teacher said it was a piece of cake! (I told you I was funny!)

Thanks!

Eli
