Seizure alert and assist service dog for Kingsley

Donation protected
Hi, this is my daughter Kingsley AKA “Nug”. Let me introduce you! Kingsley was born at 25 weeks due to end diastolic reversal flow of the umbilical artery, instead of Kingsley receiving blood flow through the umbilical cord, it flowed in reverse, back away from her. She was diagnosed severely IUGR (inter-uterine growth restriction) causing her to be in the 1% percentile for everything. She weighed 1 pound 3.4 ounce at birth and we called her “Nug”-shorten for nugget! This was also almost five years ago and over the years she has grown tremendously! Kingsley spent the first three months of her life in the NICU and special care nursery. Born with a rare genetic disorder called Tuberculosis Sclerosis Complex 2 (TSC2). Tuberous Sclerosis Complex 2 causes, typically benign tumors to grow in the brain, eyes, spinal cord, nerves, heart, lungs, kidneys, and skin. TSC2 patients also experience epilepsy and Kingsley started having seizures at 8 months old. Since then she has been on multiple medications to try and control them. It was trial and error for a while and we have been on a medicine regimen that has seemed to work for the most with a couple of break through seizures. On December 26, 2023 one of my biggest fear became a reality. Kingsley experience a hour plus long tonic clonic seizure, convulsing and vomiting, unfortunately she turned blue, I preformed CPR and called rescue. She did require to be intubated and transferred to a higher level hospital. After this event we have discussed the idea of a service dog for Kingsley. Had she not been laying beside me at the time, we can’t even imagine what the outcome could have been. We would love for our sweet girl to have a seizure alert and assist service dog. We are reaching out due to cost that is associated with obtaining and training a service dog. Seizure alert and assist dogs are trained by using an article of clothing that she has had a seizure in. Additionally, her dog would also be trained to help on days that she is more unbalanced then her normal days, due to abnormal gait from her tumors. The process to train a service dog is 16-18 months and the cost is $18,500. This dog would be trained extensively for months to assist her. We would love to have peace of mind in case she were to ever have another seizure to that degree. Her dog would also help her in public areas and school environments. Along with her TSC2 Kingsley is autistic, as this is very common in TSC2 individuals. She has stage 3 kidney disease due to poor kidney function caused by the numerous cyst in her kidneys cause by TSC2. She is pre diabetic due to a mutation at the HNF1B gene (MODY-5). Kingsley is also visual impaired due to a juvenile cataract in the left eye, she does have a hamartoma above her left optic nerve that is causing the optic nerve to thicken. Kingsley is a very determined little girl who never lets things deter her. For a child who we were unsure would even walk is now trying to run. She thrives in her therapies and is working towards communicating with her AAC device. She has a smile that will brighten anyones day and will light up a room. We are very great full for any donation and/or sharing of her story! We pray that her journey forward and the road ahead of her will be a good one for better days and continued improved health! Any proceeds will go to Dulebohn Service Dogs in Ohio.
