Seizing the Day: Running the Paris Marathon for Epilepsy!

When I was 9, my world shifted in a way I could never have anticipated. I was curled up on my mum’s lap, watching EastEnders, when I had my first seizure, completely out of the blue. That moment changed everything. Suddenly, my life became a whirlwind of hospital visits, medication trials, and the search for answers.

Navigating epilepsy wasn’t easy, especially at such a young age. I was constantly adjusting to new medications, trying to find a balance that worked. I was lucky to have an amazing neurologist, Dr. Hussan, who treated me with such care and compassion. He used to say I was on a "trickle dose," gently tweaking my medication to ease the seizures without overwhelming my system. His calm demeanor and expert guidance were a light during those confusing times.

As I grew older, epilepsy became a constant companion. I’ll never forget the day I had a seizure in the middle of a road during my time at university. It was a terrifying experience, but it was also a turning point. From that moment, I knew I had to take ownership of my epilepsy, learning to live with it rather than fight against it.

Through it all, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have the support of the NHS, my friends, and my family. Their love and understanding have been my foundation. I want to give back, not only to honor the journey I’ve been on but to help others on theirs. That’s why I’m raising money for the Epilepsy Society by running the Paris Marathon in April 2025, hoping to contribute to the vital research and support that have helped me so much.

This journey has been lifelong, filled with ups and downs, but it’s made me who I am today. And for that, I’m deeply grateful.
