In July 2022, our father experienced his first seizures—two in one day. The following month, in August, he suffered two more grand mal seizures. Since that time, our family has been working closely with physicians to find answers and take preventive measures.
He is now on three different seizure medications, and over the past three years, he has fought hard to stay consistent with his treatment. Because of this, his seizures have become limited to activity that occurs during his sleep, specifically throughout his REM cycle. While this is a step forward, it is still a constant battle we continue to navigate as a family.
We have recently had a referral sent for him to UCSF that may finally help us understand and address the unusual brain activity happening during his REM sleep cycle. This is a hopeful breakthrough—one we cannot afford to pass up.
Our family has endured years of hardship, beginning with our father’s near-fatal motorcycle accident from a devastating motorcycle crash that almost took his life. The financial impact of that accident drained our savings as we worked to keep our family afloat. Just as we were finally finding stability again, the seizures began.
We’ve been managing as best we can ever since—but now that we finally have an opportunity to pursue a real solution for his health, we need support to move forward without falling back into crisis.
Between transportation costs, treatment travel, medical expenses, food, and daily living needs, we are asking for help to keep our family from sinking back into a financial hole while we focus on supporting his care and recovery.
If our family has ever touched your life in a positive way, brought value to your home, or supported our community in meaningful moments, we humbly ask for your help during this incredibly difficult season.
We are so grateful for every share, prayer, message, and donation. Even the smallest support makes a difference when a family is fighting for someone they love.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and for considering helping our father and our family through this journey.
With love and gratitude,
The Taylor, Ross-Volz, And Arredondo Family.
