Segway Rider Rolls Again!
Donation protected
My friend and neighbor, Jonathan, is such a wonderful presence, in so very many settings and lives.
Over the years, he has added to my life...whether at Drum- Dance Circle or conversations in a car, living room, sidewalk or porch.
His wheelchair equipped van is no longer an option. Then, the breakdown of his Segway, stopped him from participation in some major activities. I want to get his Segway back!
Read his words, below, and help if you can. Every little bit will help.
THANKS!
Sariah
"In 1993, at age24, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. At the time, I was an obsessive athlete. Over the past 30 years, I have lost almost all of my physical abilities and movement to the point where now I can only walk a few steps without a cane.
About 10 years ago, as I was about to drive my son the 1 block to his daycare, it occurred me (this was long before my wheelchair) that a Segway Scooter would be perfect for these things. Fortunately, I can stand still for hours.
I have gotten incredible joy from my Segway over the years-
Long rides down to the union with my drum on my back, long trips around the lakeshore, out to the end of Picnic Point for the full moon drum circles, etc. Unfortunately, a few months ago, my Segway died. In the past I just took it up to the Segway dealer, in New Lisbon, Wisconsin, to repair it but, that dealership has closed and Seway has ceased its retail operations. And my Segway is well past its warranty. But there is one company, Great Lakes
Segway, in eastern Michigan, that can still do the intricate computer repairs necessary to revive my ride.
Their plan: Send them $3,200 (which also includes 2 new batteries (replacing the old ones not wanting to hold a charge) and they will send me a FedEx box, with shipping covered, to take my Segway to Michigan, where they will fix it and send it back (the plan includes two hours of labor which, in the past, has been enough time to reset the EO42 Error code I am getting from the computer).
The Segway is the only way I could imagine getting out to the end of Picnic Point with my drum for the full moon circles. It's the only way I could imagine going down State Street for a coffee (I no longer drive a car). But I live off of federal disability benefits and there is no extra money! So..."
