Rebuild the Segle Family Home

Donation protected

When my mother, Jeanna Segle, and my father, Dale Segle, along with my brother, Kenny, began building their home almost 30 years ago, the only thing on their minds was creating a humble home for their family. Back then, 23 miles up the Entiat Valley, there was no running water, no irrigation, no electricity – they were about as off-the-grid as it gets. That didn’t stop them. In a little under a year, they had their home built: one bedroom, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom. It wasn’t much, but it was impressive considering they had no utilities and a young child to watch. Everything was either done by hand, or tools run through a small generator.

After their home was complete, they were ready to add on to their family. They tried for a few years to have a child, but with no luck. They prayed, and prayed and after a long 5 years, they were blessed with my sister, Hannah. Their house couldn’t fit their new family of 4, so they added on a small addition to the home that included a pantry and another room. A little over a year later, I was born and we were about as happy and healthy as we could be.

8 years later, my family grew again when my mother had my little brother, Dale Jr. Once again, as our family grew, so did our family home. Another addition was added on, which included an upstairs room, as well a larger family room and mudroom. This was the final rendition of our home, and the last. My little brother Kai was born 6 years after the last addition was added and the home was full again.
Our home was not only full of people, but it had nearly 30 years of precious memories and irreplaceable keepsakes. This was the home that I grew up in – where my siblings grew up in. It’s where my mother and father envisioned growing old together in. My sister and I talked about bringing our children here and showing them the places where we played and fought together – why this home will always have a place in our hearts. It’s all gone now, burned to rubble.
When fires were the talk in my household, they were of forest fires, never anything domestic. We’d have some warning – a chance to grab our most precious belongings. There was no warning. Everything was in that house when it lit up, and everything is now in the ashes. We lost everything, and with the home not being insured, rebuilding is going to be a challenge.

The fire was July 1st and we have already gotten a large amount of community support. We have the necessities covered, thanks to the support of our friends and family. But, now comes the difficult, and expensive, part: rebuilding our home. We have have little money to put into a home and it will all be out of pocket because the house was not insured. My family runs a small soap business, Stormy Mountain Soaps, but that barely makes ends meet. We are at a loss on how we can even get close to managing rebuilding our home with so little.

My family has never been one to accept hand outs, but we don’t have a choice at this point – you guys are our only hope. Every little bit helps. If you can’t donate, please share this with your friends and family. Let’s have our story to spread faster than the fire that engulfed our home. With your help, we can overcome this adversity and begin making memories in our new home.

The funds will go completely into the building materials, equipment, and labor needed to rebuild the home.

If you, or someone you know, may be willing to donate building supplies, equipment, or labor to help rebuild, please contact us through the contact portion of this page.

Thank you all so much and God bless.
