Sega Needs Surgery

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been trying to save animals. But sometimes, you find an animal that saves you.
This is Sega.
I’ve had Sega for almost 3 years now. I got him when he was 8 months old, and he was A Very Bad Dog. He ate my brand new couch the day I got it. He marked my house like crazy. He was (and still is) loud as hell. And he’d chew up anything he could get his paws on.
But he also would:
1. Lay on my when I was having a panic attack
2. Come find me and nuzzle his head in my neck when I was crying and let me hug him
3. Lay in the bathroom guarding the door when I was sick
4. Protect me from strangers who got a little too close
And as time went on, he grew to be A Very Good Dog. He’s trustworthy, well mannered, and the happiest dog you’ll ever meet.
On February 27th, I was given the heartbreaking news that, at just three years old, Sega has 4 internal bleeding masses. After a month of on-again off-again GI issues and multiple vet visits, we finally had an answer why. It was worst-case scenario; we were hoping for just some sort of bacterial infection.
In the upcoming weeks, we’ll be getting an MRI done to determine if there are more masses. We’ll also be doing bloodwork and biopsies to determine if the masses are cancerous. And then, we’ll talk surgery. Best case scenario: those four masses are the only existing ones, we remove them, and that cures everything. Worst case scenario: he has more internal masses, they’re cancerous, and his time with me is cut much shorter than I ever imagined.
I’ve been extremely overwhelmed and emotional. Sega is my heart-dog through and through. He’s provided so much companionship since my move to Iowa in times where I’ve felt very alone. He’s an emotional rock for me. My only plan of action now is to give him as much love as I can while we wait for answers.
If you pray, we’ll take some of those. If you give good vibes, we’ll take some of those. Thank you to all my animal medical friends who have put up with my endless questions.
Sega & I love all of you.
