SEETHERED- Coming to Victoria and Vancouver
Three years ago, curled up with a heating pad and hopped up on painkillers, I wrote a monologue about my experience with endometriosis. It was mostly an excuse to vent, an outlet for the anger I was feeling towards both my own body, and the medical system which had no answers for my pain. Fast forward through surgery, handfuls of tried and failed medications, seemingly infinite ultrasounds, and endless research, and I still have not found a lasting solution for my endometriosis. I have, however, expanded that monologue into a sixty-minute theatre piece, incorporating a multitude of other reproductive health issues and medical biases that people with uteruses and ovaries face daily. My literal blood, sweat, and tears are written into every syllable of this show... and now I need YOUR help!
During a time where there are many causes that deserve your funding, where your donation could save a life, it is uncomfortable to be asking for people to contribute to a piece of theatre. Our play is not a matter of life or death, and I deeply encourage you to look at other causes that require imminent financial help. However, if you have donated to these NPOs already, and have a little extra loose change, it would go a long way for us.
Your donation will contribute to the cost of building the set, costuming the actors, renting rehearsal and performance space, creating promotional material, hiring a videographer for a filmed version, and reducing travel costs to the Victoria Fringe Festival in August. My cast is incredible, and I would love to be able to allocate the profits from ticket sales to pay them for their work.
I am so excited to share this play with Victoria and Vancouver audiences, to enlighten and educate, but also to let others know they are not alone in their pain and frustration. If you (or a loved one) have ever been shamed for a bloodstain or been told by a Doctor that the pain is all in your head, if you've ever battled birth control side effects or grieved a pregnancy loss, if you're tired of hiding tampons in your sleeve or people asking you when you're going to have kids- then support SEETHERED today! Whether it's a donation to this fundraiser, a share or "like" of a post, or a ticket purchased to a performance, everything is deeply appreciated.

"Our frustrations are more than hormones. Our bodies are meant for more than childbirth. Our pain will not be dismissed with a Midol. Our voices will not be silenced by laws. With feet planted firmly in the stirrups, four women examine the ways in which their autonomy has been compromised by the medical system. Exploring everything from wandering wombs, to period sex, to female sterilization, SEETHERED is an unapologetically bloody and beautiful battlecry for the acknowledgment of women’s pain. This play celebrates the choices we are given, mourns the choices we were forbidden, and rallies for the choices we deserve."
