Aloha all!

I’m Christie, the eldest daughter of Joanne. On February 9th, I received a distressing call in the evening from my mom, informing me that she was in trouble and needed immediate attention to go to the hospital. Without hesitation, I flew from Washington state and arrived on February 10th in the morning, embarking on the challenging journey of her recovery that landed her in the hospital. My mother was urgently, hospitalized and later underwent emergency surgery the following day to try to save her legs which was a success but, subsequently landed her in the ICU on a challenging path to recovery. Another surgery was recently required to address her heart condition we were surprised with when she was rushed to the hospital the first day and performed on February 15th, which we learned she will need another surgery this coming week to correct the issues concerning her heart. Meanwhile, while caught in this turmoil, my two younger sisters, Stella and Malia, had to hastily fly from Texas to Hawaii to be by her side and help with the road to recovery.

The most daunting and frightening aspect of this journey is that her three daughters reside in different states, while Joanne is living in Hawaii. We are urgently working to relocate her to Texas for her heart surgery and recovery due to the fact that the specialist that needs to perform the surgery, regardless needs to fly in. We decided with a team of doctors, it’s better for all of us to fly her to be by family in Texas while she recovers and can hopefully return to Hawaii safely in the next 2-6 months after recovery. However, our financial constraints prevent us from carrying this burden alone. With humility, we are reaching out to everyone that we know and all the beautiful people that love our mom and care deeply for her for assistance to cover her medical expenses, flights, surgery, medications and ensure her comfortable and safe transition while in Texas where she will undergo the heart surgery and need several months for recovery. This unfortunate situation has already created a massive financial burden, but we are focused on receiving ANY and ALL possible financial support to make the immediate concerns and transition possible!

It’s truly challenging for us to reach out for help, but knowing that so many people care deeply, for mom fills our hearts with gratitude beyond words. We hold onto hope tightly, believing that the surgery and temporary re-location will pave the way for many more precious years together.
