Seeking support for friends totaled car

Hi, my name is Matthew. On January 8th, my friend Michael that was moving to our school got into an accident due to the roads surrounding Iowa City freezing. He ended up slipping into the midsection where he crashed into the column of the Lower West Branch bridge and fortunately survived due to crashing on the passenger side of his car. It was only him driving with his two cats, one of which ran away due to the pet carrier breaking. The other cat is fine thankfully. The car was completely totaled and is unsalvageable.

I'm hoping to help him recover from the accident. Michael's been supporting himself for the past few years and recently got accepted to our school in Des Moines. This was a really good opportunity for him and it ended up turning into a disaster leaving him with almost all of his belongings destroyed as well as his car. He was fortunate enough to only suffer bruises and some cuts. He's waiting to see the school doctor because he doesn't have health insurance.

I hope that in hard times like these, I'm able to bring together people, especially after the New Year's, to help him get back on his feet so he's able to commute to work and school. Thank you in advance for your kindness. Anything is appreciated.
