Patrick's medical report from CHUK hospital
Hi! My name is Yvette and this is my cousin brother, Patrick Muhire!! Patrick was raised in my family and I love him as my little brother! He comes from a very poor family and therefore he's always been fully supported by me and my family!  He was about to start his second semester of senior two(8th grade).  He was  normaly a healthy kid with no prior history of serious illnesses but things changed so suddently when he came home for easter break. He felt ill the day he left school and when he got home he went to a health center near by. He showed signs of malaria but they could not find it. He was sent  home but came back the next day complaining more and in much more pain! He was immediately hospitalized and transferred to Rukoma district hospital the following day where he was diagnosed with hyperglycemia.

This condition was closely monitored by injecting him with insulin but he continued to experience excrutiating pain in both of his legs. He was sent to CHUK in kigali where they continued to do more tests trying to understand the reason of his almost unbearable pain. Blood samples were sent to Butaro Cancer Hospital and results came in on 04/25 with a diagnosis of Acute myloid Leukemia(cancer of blood). Butaro, The only cancer hospital we have in Rwanda could not admit him because they do not treat this kind of cancer, they said. So the only option was to send him to india or bring him here in US.

I contacted so many organizations and hospitals with no success. Emory hospital explained to me that an international patient with no insurance would have to pay $1700 to see the doctor and deposit $100 000 for treatment. This was beyond my understanding and capability. So I started looking into clinical trials. St.Jude children's hospital was the only hospital currently carrying out a clinical trial for AML but unfortunately they were not taking international patients this time due to funding issues!

Recently we were able to find a group of private oncologists at King Faisal Hospital(in kigali) willing to do a bone marrow test to confirm the diagnosis  and start Patrick on Induction therapy. The confirmatory results came in today and he will need to start  the induction chemo treatment as soon as possible for which we will need to pay 2 Millions Rwandan francs( ~$2500) and with all hopes, once he survives the chemo phase he will be sent to India for bone marrow transplantation .

Acute myloid leukemia is a very aggressive cancer and can quickly kill the patient when nothing is done as soon as possible. It has already been 2 weeks past the diagnosis and I am reaching out to you all my friends and any merciful person that is reading this, to help me help my brother! He is an ambitious kid,  peaceful, and full of hope for the future!

Please, Let's help Patrick  beat Leukemia!

 Thank you!
