Seeking Help - I need Bone Marrow Transplant

Dear all,

I am Amrith Mariappan, a 22-year-old graduate student of Aerospace Engineering at the University at Buffalo (UB), New York, seeking help and support from well-wishers and philanthropists for meeting the expenses for my Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) at the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, NY. I need to mobilize funds for meeting all expenses, including caregiver charges, which are not under my insurance coverage. I was born and brought up in India and arrived in New York, U.S.A January 2021 for my graduate studies for meeting my career objectives and personal goal. At present I don’t have any income and my family in India is not rich enough to support my medical treatment. I will be thankful to you if you could give generous support for my treatment.

Background

While I was in India, I was discovered with anemia at the age of 13; since then, I was getting treatment. In 2017, doctors in India found out that I have Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) also called Preleukemia. My condition got a bit worse from then, so I had to receive blood transfusions often to maintain a normal blood count level. MDS has no cure except Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT). Since BMT has lots of complications Indian doctors were in the dilemma to do the BMT to me. After coming to the United States my blood count level started dropping faster than usual. I got a blood transfusion on May 2021 at the Buffalo General Medical Center. Now I am under the treatment of Dr. Philip McCarthy at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Doctors here affirmed that I have the Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) condition.

Please note that I need to undergo Bone Marrow Transplant at an early date as my health condition is getting worse now. It has greatly affected my personal and professional life. I would like to live a happy life like the other guys of my age group. I don’t have any immediate family members in the United States to be my caregiver. Now my parents are having a heavy financial burden as my younger brother is also affected with the same health condition and currently undergoing treatment in India. Therefore, I need a caregiver during my BMT procedure and thereafter for a minimum period of 100 days with personal attention 24/7. The professional caregivers are very expensive, and my insurances don’t cover the caregiver costs.
