my name is jennifer, and i’m a textile and mixed‑media artist based in alameda, california. my work is rooted in the histories carried by women — the invisible labor, the quiet endurance, the strength that holds families and communities together. since losing my mother, my practice has become a way of grieving, listening, and honoring the stories that often go unspoken.i was recently accepted to the la wayaka residency in the atacama desert of chile. this residency offers a rare chance to work in a landscape shaped by deep time, indigenous knowledge, and traditions of making that center care, resourcefulness, and resilience — themes that mirror the heart of my work. being there will allow me to explore how women’s labor, memory, and survival echo across cultures and environments.the funds i’m raising will support the residency fee and travel costs. this opportunity will give me dedicated time to create a new body of work, deepen my research on women’s labor and material history, and share the results through exhibitions and writing when i return to the bay area.this residency is part of my healing, part of my artistic growth, and part of my commitment to honoring the strength of the women who shaped me. any support helps me take this next step with intention and care.
