In 1969, I inherited a world still full of promise. What I'm leaving my children looks nothing like it. I come from 30 years in corporate business development. Recently, I joined the Global Regeneration CoLab (GRC)—seeking pathways to tackle the unprecedented challenges humanity faces as a global village.

At GRC, I met Frederick Onyango. He shared his dream to build a campus community garden that would teach regenerative farming, environmental conservation, and economic empowerment. The garden would use modern technologies and renewable energy to protect natural resources and enhance livelihoods.

It would provide essential nutrition and income to local families.

Frederick made this video to bring the garden to life — the soil, the kids, the work happening right now. Take a look:

I'll admit I was skeptical at first. I told Frederick: I need a plot map and the title for the property. A month later, he came back with both — and he'd negotiated free use of the land and access to a government water supply. That's when I knew this was real. And important!

Mat, a permaculture consultant, mentored Frederick on no-till agriculture and solar systems. Green Sphere will save $12,000+/year (solar, not diesel), and no-till ensures the soil remains regenerative. Roots sequester more carbon than trees, stretching 7–14 feet down, building living soil as they go.

Mat went to India and visited Vandana Shiva at Navdanya, Bunker Roy's Barefoot College, and Avani with Tushar and Arun Gandhi. He put it this way:

"It's a community. A global community. And we can help. You change the lives of a group of people and communities halfway around the world. The knowledge may magnify out at a compounding level that's not even conceivable. But everyone has to get that first bird off the ground. Downstream in 10 years it impacts tens of thousands of lives. If you can think of all the impact it can have on tens of thousands of people in 10 years and compress that down to now — how much power is that?"

Frederick and I shared our progress. The GRC community responded enthusiastically. Some pledged financial support, others volunteered their time and expertise — videos, a project management platform, a landing page, fundraising copy. One member learned of the project and met Frederick in Nairobi a week later!

This is the power of trust-based values in action.

This is what happens when you and I and other kind-hearted people who believe in helping people join together and do what we can!

This isn't the Western nonprofit model of big buildings and big budgets. This garden (school campus farm) will become a reality with less than $10,000 in essential infrastructure: land preparation, fencing, a solar pump, water tank, irrigation, and a small training office. It will become a village powered by new technology and generations of local know-how — because all of us are part of something bigger than ourselves!

We are small circles expanding outward, crossing oceans.

When our gifts of knowledge and donations pass to someone on another continent, we change people's lives. Together, we can build a global village reaching hundreds, then thousands of people. Together we will impact our families, neighbors, and the next generation.
