Outdoor education is highly valued at Lord Deramore’s School and all classes have regular Forest School and outdoor sessions.

 

We have already worked hard to develop our grounds and provision for children having done as much as we can with a limited budget and using donations of materials and labour.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE ALREADY?
* Constructed a 40 metre dead hedge to create a hedgehog sanctuary with log piles, feeding stations and hibernaculums
* Built bird boxes
* Made two huge bug hotels
* Installed seven vegetable beds in the allotment area
* Planted a snowdrop rockery
* Sowed a wildflower area
* Added large logs into the forest
* Removed old, rotten vegetable beds to the front of school and replaced them with a lawned area, rockery. plants in the borders and climbers up the fence
* Installed a 12ft X 20ft greenhouse with staging and water butts 

* Added four large boulders
* Created a seating area on the field
* Bought very large plant pots and planted over 1,200 bulbs and shrubs
* Created a hexagonal rockery  
* Planted a lavender bed
* Built three leaf composters
* Provided each class with a  welly rack
* Installed a shed for the gardening equipment

* Purchased benches to the front of school
* Placed memorial plaques in the Reflection Garden for seven members of the Lord Deramore’s family 
* Planted new trees ready for the forest expansion

WHAT DO WE WANT TO DO?

* Double the size of the Forest School area, remove the old fence and replace with a new one
* Buy an ongoing supply of seeds

* Develop the grounds outside the school reception area 
* Resource the forest area with more equipment for den building, making fires and forest play
* Develop the sensory garden
* Purchase a class set of binoculars
* Buy wildlife cameras
* Plant more shrubs
* Investigate heating the greenhouse
