Hi everyone, we're Joseph and Ladonia Thomas the parents of four beautiful children. Six (6) years ago our eldest son Joseph who is now 10 years old was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease. ‘Joey’, as we affectionately call him was born with Posterior Urethral Valves which resulted in a perforated bladder. After months of being in hospital and corrective procedures being performed, he was able to live a normal life. However, unbeknownst to us, the valves returned, blocked the flow of urine which caused it to return to his kidneys. On a routine check-up at the pediatrician, our then 4 year old son was diagnosed with Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease. At this time, we lived in the Bahamas where there were no dedicated Pediatric Nephrology or Urology Departments, so we spent a few years traveling back and forth to the United States, where he underwent numerous surgeries to assist with kidney and bladder functions. Due to the immense financial strain and employment obligations, we needed a better way to to receive the medical care our son needed. In 2019, we moved to Ontario, Canada where he has been receiving medical care at Sick Kids. At this time he is presently incontinent as a means to relieve kidney pressure and is awaiting a kidney transplant. In preparation for this major procedure, he has been placed on a strict daily plan and a number of medications, including growth hormones. Due to our son's high risk nature along with daily maintenance needs, we've been forced into a one income family and costs have been mounting. There are hospital bills we have incurred over the years and the financial strain is immense. Therefore, we are seeking the support to help defray costs and even funds to go towards surgery. No seed is too great or small. God bless you and your families!
