Seed to Harvest: A Children's Book about VC

Hi, I’m Paige Doherty, a recent graduate of San Diego State University and first time author! I’m opening up about my process of writing and self-publishing a children's book for adults on venture capital, called Seed to Harvest. 


when i started learning about venture capital(VC), i was so curious to learn how it overall worked. there was a ton of content around how investors viewed companies and markets, but i had a hard time finding information about fund operations, fundraising, portfolio management and what VCs did day-to-day. 


i began to understand that a LOT of other people probably didn’t know much about that side of vc either, so i wanted to write for that audience - first-time founders and those wanting to get into vc, especially those from underrepresented groups.  i wanted another way to explain what vc is than “have you watched shark tank? yeah it’s kind of like that but with more money”. 


i built this notion doc  to draw together resources(referred to as canonical by long-time investors), and i got a lot of questions about a primer on venture capital. i couldn’t find one, and the same day my friend nikhil posted about writing a children’s book. i was like hmm, maybe i could try that? so here I am - trying that :)

 my intention with Seed to Harvest is to explain what VCs do from the perspective of an investor in plain language. my goal is to provide accessible information about venture capital in non-jargon to encourage a wider variety of people to get involved with venture. i’ve been intentional about collecting feedback from my community of investors, founders, and non-tech people (like my family :) )
