I am Sussana, in 2020 not long after qualifying as a social worker, I joined a complex safeguarding team working with children at risk of being exploited criminally and/or sexually. Working in this profession I have discovered a disturbing pattern: Black and brown boys are consistently being perceived as criminals rather then victims.

As a naturally curious person with a strong pull towards justice, I was left questioning why this is? How large is the problem? And what are the potentional ramifications?

In search for answers and direction for change, I began my six month academic research journey.

My research unveiled the shocking reality of systemic racial bias within institutions meant to protect these young people. Instituational racial bias and discrimination has founded the issue of adultification. This concept is when notions of innocence and vulnerability are not afforded to certain children resulting in the childs rights being diminshed or not upheld.

To bring this issue to light, I’m creating a powerful short film that will tell their stories. Hopefully evoking change and shaping a better practice, producing better outcomes for all children across the UK.

Your support and generous donations will help fund the production of this crucial film. Enabling me to hire a skilled crew, secure equipment, and share the experience of these children. By donating, you are investing into a future where every child is seen, heard and protected.

The end finanical goal is £7,000 by April 2025. Every contribution, no matter the size brings us one step closer to bringing change into our damaged system which is failing many children. Thank you for your support.
