Help Sylhet Pride Rotary Eye Hospital Provide Free Eye Care in Bangladesh

Access to basic healthcare remains a challenge for millions worldwide, and in Bangladesh, eye care is particularly scarce. With only about 1,200 registered ophthalmologists serving a population of 164 million, many—especially in rural areas—lack access to essential vision care.

The prevalence of blindness in Bangladesh is alarmingly high, with around 750,000 adults and 48,000 children affected. Cataracts and other preventable conditions often go untreated due to a lack of resources, leaving many to struggle with impaired vision that impacts their daily lives.

The Challenge of Accessing Eye Care

For those in rural areas, seeking treatment isn’t just a financial burden—it’s a logistical one. Many must travel hours or even days to reach an eye doctor in an urban center, a journey that is often impossible due to cost and transportation barriers. As a result, many people live with vision problems that could otherwise be managed or corrected.

Imagine being unable to work, study, or perform basic daily tasks because of untreated eye conditions. For these individuals, access to proper eye care could mean regaining independence, opportunities, and dignity.

This is where we come in. Together with Sylhet Pride Rotary Eye Hospital, we are working to organize a free eye clinic for a village in Bangladesh. Our goal is to provide vision screenings, treatments, eyeglasses, and medications to those who need them most.
