My name is Alyssa. I am 32 years old, have cerebral palsy and walk with a walker.

November 26, 2017, began like many of the days before it, sitting quietly in my room praying my abuser would be calm and leave me alone but that wasn’t meant to be. There in the home that held all my memories both good and bad, I was brutally assaulted. It wasn’t the first time by any means but it was the most severe. Nothing would ever be the same again and 6 years later I still can’t shake the hate I saw in those eyes that were supposed to love me. It took me a year and several hospitalizations to recover.

The years that followed were brutal, with more pain than I knew my heart could carry. In and out of courtrooms, fighting for myself, taking care of my dad who was suffering from severe PTSD, the divorce of my parents and a criminal trial where I did not get justice. In that very dark moment, I couldn’t understand what it was all for and who I would be in the aftermath of it all.

Since the attack, I have been dealing with anxiety causing me to gain close to 50 pounds. It puts a lot of strain on my already weakened body. I have a gastrointestinal illness called gastroparesis that leaves me feeling nauseous and fatigued every day. It wasn’t even that I was eating a lot (I can’t) but what I was eating was high-calorie junk. I wish I could go back and tell myself to find another way to cope but I am where I am and now I am determined to fix it.

In May 2020 I was blessed with a wonderful kinesiologist, Laura who works at The Fitness Loft.

The light was finally shining in my life again! I not only saw so much progress physically but the camaraderie and positive atmosphere at the gym boosted my confidence. I once again felt the strength my father instilled in me and knew that I could finally overcome my trauma and begin living my life to the fullest once again.

My kinesiologist believes that with the opportunity to work continuously with me for at least a year, I could start walking independently. I have not been able to walk without assistance since I was a small child and I want the chance…no, I deserve the chance to find out what my true potential is and hopefully inspire others along the way.

At $65/session(+ tax) four times per week, the cost far outweighs my social assistance income and I was forced to end my session with Laura much too soon. Despite my many attempts to get the government to cover the cost, they have declined and my insurance does not cover such a service.
I am here today to seek your support in helping to cover the cost of kinesiology treatments for a full year as suggested by my kinesiologist. 100% of your generous donations will go directly towards the full session fees which will allow me to continue treatments and get back mobility and strength in my body. Laura has very generously offered to donate one session per week at no cost to help me on my journey and I am truly grateful.

Your support means freedom to me…a chance at a bright future and no longer being a victim…but a true survivor. I want to show my dad that all the love he poured into me, every sacrifice he made, and every hardship we’ve come through together was worth it. To show him that because of his love and support, I believed in myself and pushed myself to reach my full potential even though it was hard.

The look on his face when I take my first independent steps since I was a child will be the most precious gift I ever receive and all thanks to your generosity allowing me the ability to follow through on my physical therapy journey.

I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and support and ask that you please share my campaign with your family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers to help spread the word and allow me to once again be on the right track to a life full of potential!
