We are asking the community for help with the current devastation around the world. Young Israel of Tampa, is a non-profit, and have been in their current location since 2009. They are very active in the community with daily services as well as activities and have a jewish summer camp.

The shul is not an elaborate building and the congregants mostly like having it this way. We believe all people should have the right to practice their religion peacefully and without judgment or threats. The recent events in Israel have lead to a dramatic increase in anti semitism around the world.

We've had outdoor Lag B'Omer Bonfires, we celebrate and dance in the streets for Simchas Torah, and we are generally happy and appreciative to be located next door to the University of South Florida.

Since the day of October 8th, Simchas Torah, when a very large pro-Hamas and pro-Palestine rally was held at the corner of 56th and Fowler Avenue (just a short half mile up the road). We've seen an alarming amount of threats and intimidation including drawing Palestinian flags outside of the synagogue as well as a voicemail threatening violence. Unfortunately this shift towards anger and rage against the Jewish population in general has increased and we no longer feel safe. The rallies are weekly right down the street. Only light can stand up to darkness!

We are hopeful that regardless of the violent rhetoric coming out of the Middle East, America's arabs will not resort to violence.

Currently, we are employing a security team to monitor the area during Shabbat. We are in touch with local law enforcement, who have been nothing but supportive.

Still we are fearful for our safety and need your help to buy and build a security fence around the perimeter, provide security as well as an installation of a 24 hour video surveillance system.

Although there's only so much we can do, your donation will help bring back a small sense of safety and security to our community.
