Please help secure the future of Z-PAC

The future of Z-PAC, your local theatre, is in your hands.

In these crazy, confusing times, I trust that you and those you love are safe and well. Even though our theatre is powered down, it is you, our members, our beloved audience, our supporters and sponsors, who hold the power to re-ignite the theatre. Our local theatre is in trouble and it needs your help.

I write to ask you to consider funding the future of our local theatre, Z-PAC. If you could consider chipping in a small gift – an investment in your local culture – it would help us to continue to provide that special, community-building theatre experience, which is so crucial to our town and our region.

Z-PAC receives no government support and does not qualify for any of the assistance grants available.

Without opening our doors, we have no income. None.

This is the biggest crisis Z-PAC has faced, but with our community behind us, we will come back stronger than ever. Z-PAC has a long and distinguished history with deep roots in our local community.

In fact, Z-PAC is so much more than a ticket, a seat and a performance. Z-PAC is you, our community. Our community on stage, our community backstage crewing shows and building sets. It is our community working in the bar and serving our community audience, and our community providing drama classes for our young people.

Theatre is so fundamental to the way that our society connects - it couldn’t disappear if we tried.  As long as there is the human instinct to come together, empathise, share and use stories as a way to unlock the world, there will be theatre.  It’s why theatre appears everywhere – in school playgrounds, in the back of pubs, in two friends recounting a story, and even now, theatre is being made in kids’ bedrooms to a “captive” audience of parents stuck at home.  It’s instinctual and we will always come back to it.

It fuels connection; to ideas; to joy; to each other; and to the ritual of shared experiences. It is being alongside others in a theatre eagerly awaiting that intangible moment where a room full of strangers take a journey together. There’s nothing that can replicate that.

So we’re at intermission, waiting for the doors to open again.

At this time when we’re all so aware of the importance of connection, and places of community, I hope you’ll consider the role theatre will take in restoring this.  If you are in a position to do so, please consider how you can support us at this time.

But above all, please keep safe and look after yourselves.  I look forward to being with you at the theatre again once more.

Best wishes from the Z-PAC team.
