Dear friends and family, I am reaching out to you during a very challenging time in my life. I am seeking your support to help cover the costs of legal representation as I navigate a divorce and a domestic violence situation. Over the last year and a half, I have endured a difficult and unhealthy relationship marked by emotional, financial, mental, and physical abuse. During this time, I have required the help of the police department on several occasions due to the assault, and I had to install cameras and have the locks changed on my apartment after my ex stole things from my apartment while I was at work one day. His violent behavior has gotten him eighty-sixed from a local club after assaulting me at the establishment, and he has been given verbal warnings at two other establishments because of similar incidents. Despite my efforts to seek help, the situation has escalated, leading me to make the difficult decision to file for divorce. This choice is not just about ending a marriage; it is about reclaiming my life and ensuring that I can live free from fear. Prior to our separation in June, he forced me to sign a Community Property Agreement document under duress and told me if I did not sign it, he would “drag out the whole divorce process through the courts and see to it that I never received a dime from him in alimony.” The document was by far unfair and included things such as him becoming the sole owner of our 2 macaw parrots, leaving me all of the financial debt we accrued while together, unequal splitting of assets, and more.

Navigating the legal system can be overwhelming, especially when dealing with issues of domestic violence. An experienced attorney will provide me with the guidance necessary to protect myself legally and emotionally. They will help me understand my rights, assist in obtaining a protective order, and ensure that the divorce proceedings are handled fairly.

The costs associated with hiring an attorney can be substantial. Legal fees often range from $200 to $500 per hour, depending on the complexity of the case and the attorney’s experience. Additionally, there may be filing fees, costs for obtaining documents, and other related expenses that add up quickly.
