Secure a Safe Haven for a Journalist and Her Dad

After living in my current location for forty-five years, my former landlord arrived today (3/5) to inform me that he had sold the house and land this winter. While he did offer this home to myself and my father this past summer, my father said no under the impression they weren't interested in selling in general and we'd have more time to save. They claim they sent legal correspondence to us; we have no evidence of this. They assumed we had somehow abandoned the house sometime in December, even though our neighbors have seen us coming in and out of the house and, from January through March food deliveries involving a large tractor trailer have been taking place. We have been sending rent checks from January through February to them and several have been returned to us marked "address unknown." Their idea of asking we contact them was not sending a notarized letter, or calling my number (which they have) but stuffing business cards into our doorjamb.

I had been planning on moving over the last year, but this has escalated the situation beyond my ability to plan for or cope with it. I work from home as a journalist, and am an agoraphobic Latina with anxiety issues and I am currently in the process of finishing my college education so I can get a better job. I am currently coping - poorly - with the shock of being abruptly shoved out of the only home I've known for 45 years.

My seventy-four year old father just survived time in the ICU, an incorrectly-inserted feeding tube which starved him for nearly two weeks, and a recent diagnosis of congestive heart failure. Due to this, he's currently not working, and while I get further training I want to assure he'll have a safe place to heal.

This GoFundMe has been established to help with lingering medical bills -including finally getting my own dental surgery done - initial rent on a new place, moving costs and hopefully to help us purchase a home of our own in the distant future.
