Hello, my name is Matthew Cauli. Five years ago, my family’s world was shattered when my wife, Kanlaya, suffered two massive strokes caused by undiagnosed ovarian cancer. At just 35 years old, she survived emergency brain surgery, a full hysterectomy, and chemotherapy. The damage left her permanently paralyzed on her left side, wheelchair-bound, and with significant cognitive challenges.
Overnight, I became her full-time, unpaid caregiver and had to leave my career. We lost 100% of our income. Our lives became a daily marathon of medical care, therapy, and adapting to a new, profoundly difficult normal. Thanks to the incredible generosity of this community in the past, we made it through those first catastrophic years.
But the marathon doesn’t end. Our greatest fear is no longer just the medical bills or the daily needs—it’s the foundation beneath our feet. Our mortgage is the last, and largest, thread of financial instability hanging over our family.
I am fundraising for one final, crucial goal: to pay off our mortgage.
Why this? Because if anything were to happen to me, Kanlaya and our young son would not only lose a husband and father, but they could lose their home. The thought of them facing instability on top of everything else is unbearable. Paying off our home would provide permanent, irrevocable security. It would guarantee:
A safe, accessible place for Kanlaya to live and heal.
A stable foundation for our son to grow up in.
The removal of our single biggest monthly stressor, allowing us to focus every resource on her care and quality of life.
This isn't just about money; it's about gifting my wife and son the one thing I desperately want to give them: peace of mind. It’s about turning the house we've fought to keep into a permanent sanctuary, free from the threat of loss.
We have been humbled by your support in the past. We are now asking for your help one more time to achieve this lasting security. Every single contribution brings us closer to locking the door on uncertainty and ensuring our family has a safe haven, forever.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading our story, for sharing it, and for considering being a part of our family’s future.
With immense gratitude,
Matthew, Kanlaya, and our son
