Secret Santa Mission - China Rescue Dogs

Welcome to the Secret Santa Mission - China Rescue Dogs! Secret Santa Worldwide is a group of Alaskan Malamute owners who take on “secret” missions to help fellow Malamute owners in need. For the first time, we are joining forces with Golden Retriever, Husky, and Samoyed groups to support China Rescue Dogs (CRD), a rescue undertaking extraordinary measures to save OUR breeds from the Dog Meat Trade (DMT) in China.

Consuming dog meat is an ancient practice in China. For this reason, the DMT, which raises dogs solely for their meat and, in some cases, their pelts, continues to thrive. Since 2009, Yulin (China) has held an annual 10-day Dog Meat Festival where 10,000 dogs are consumed. Organizations around the world are working to permanently ban this practice, but it is a slow process because China has no animal welfare laws.

Why are we raising money for CRD? Founded by Jill Stewart, CRD is a 501(c)3 that rescues dogs who are abandoned, at the butcher, or headed for slaughter and then rehabilitates and finds them loving, forever homes in North America.

In the past, Golden Retrievers, Huskies, Malamutes, and Samoyeds were left to perish. Their size and weight made it too expensive to move them out of China. Flying a Malamute from China to Los Angeles (LAX) costs roughly $4000. Goldens, Huskies, and Samoyeds are a bit less expensive. Despite the exorbitant costs, CRD only asks for an adoption fee from potential adopters and then offsets the rest of the cost. That in itself is incredible, but when you add in 1) costs to spay/neuter and vaccinate to U.S./Canadian/European standards, 2) medical care to get the dog fully healthy to travel, and 3) navigating the complexities of China's export regulations and U.S. State Department/Canadian/European regulations to import live animals...it is a complex, costly effort. And that does not include the cost of food, housing, and transportation when the pup is transitioning to a new, loving home.

Our collective goal is to shore up Jill Stewart and CRD/RuesKennels@LAX with the funds and items the rescue needs to function while they continue to save our breeds from the hands of the DMT. On Delivery Day, Jill will receive items purchased from the wish list and GFM contributions in one check. Your contributions will be used primarily for freedom flights out of China and other CRD expenses Jill deems necessary.

This is going to be a big effort and will take a village to make it a smashing success. Because Jill has helped so many people and so many dogs, we want to come together collectively to support her efforts.
