I want to share a bit about what my family and I have been going through lately.

Back in July 2024, my mom (Go Ngie Hia) was diagnosed with stage 2A colorectal cancer and it progressed to 2B not long after that. Since then, I’ve been fully devoted to taking care of her throughout the long chemotherapy process, which lasted until April 2025 and many more check up after that to make sure everything is okay. Everything done in Johor, Malaysia where we live in Batam, Indonesia.

Just when we thought things were starting to look up, another challenge hit us. Around March to April 2025, serious complications developed in her liver, which caused her condition to decline again. After showing some signs of recovery and slowly getting back to doing light activities, another blow came on June 3, 2025, my mom suffered a bleeding in the head (rupture). It was severe enough that she had to undergo a craniotomy. She has to stop any of the medication because we don’t have the funding

why we don’t use BPJS?

-for cancer treatment we devoted ourselves to do it in Johor because of their reputation and we tried to make BPJS but they complicate it until it was active until recently June 2025 (also we consult with the doctor if the cancer is not dangerous we will have to queue for the surgery and it will take a month that time so we decided to do it ourselves in Johor)

-This time we thought that if we pay off the surgery, the rest can be covered by BPJS but apparently not, everything needs to be to be paid by ourselves because of the regulations (no splitting bills between surgery and room cost)

Now, I’ve become the main provider for my family. I just started working again this June (I have 2 jobs) after being away for months to care for my mom. But these back-to-back challenges have left us in a really tough financial situation.

The breakdown of the cost this time

8 days in ICU - £210

Craniotomy - £6500

After treatment - approximately £2000-3000 (if there’s possibly relapsed of cancer)

For now we’re trying to get the fund only for the surgery as they won’t do the procedure without us paying. The rest can wait until the end of the tratment

Previously we have spent about 80,000 Malaysian Ringgit for the Cancer Treatment including 4x (probably extra in the future if it relapsed) of Chemotherapy and Laparoscopic. This amount of money is not fully paid either to close friends and few relatives. We would like to pay this off too if it’s possible from here or we will try our best to slowly paid it off. Any extra amount will go to them or to the remaining medical bill like (ICU and room cost)
