My brother Dave was in a horrible accident last week, and needs our help. He is laid up in the hospital, hundreds of miles away from home, accumulating astronomical medical bills far beyond his insurance limits. He will be there for another couple of weeks, awaiting yet another surgery, before facing six to eight months of painful physical therapy.
As the bus driver, Dave took the brunt of the force created by impacting a jack-knifed truck in front of the bus. It took para rescue two and a half hours to cut him out of the bus, while he was conscious, in pain, staring at his mangled foot, and worrying about his beloved companion Cuzco, who went head first through the windshield and was lost for several hours.
Dave could have attempted to jump the median to avoid the truck, risking innocent lives in the oncoming traffic, or he could have shifted to the right lane, possibly taking smaller cars down the cliff with the bus. Either choice might have improved his own chances, but in that split second he made the best choice to preserve the greatest possible life of the bus passengers and the surrounding traffic, endangering his own life in the process. Remarkably, no one died in this horrific accident. Thank God.
Dave is a tough hombre and is dealing with his own physical discomfort. Fortunately, Cuzco was rescued and returned safely to hearth and home, otherwise Dave would not have been able to stand the pain of not knowing Cuzco's fate. Many thanks to the band members of "Hinder," who helped find and rescue Cuzco.
The good news is that none of his multiple body-shattering injures appear to be life-threatening.
The bad news is that the bus is totalled and Dave is flat on his back, unable to work at all for another six to eight months. Dave needs our help to pay his medical bills and support his family.
Thank you for your thoughtful consideration!
