Hi I am Anna, Sebastian's mom. At the end of January 2022, Sebastian felt a pain in his neck. Within 5 hours of this pain; he was intubated and paralyzed from the neck down. The diagnosis we were given was Acute Flaccid Myelitis, a severe but rare neurological disease affecting the spinal cord. He has been in the hospital and rehab for the past seven months, working hard in recovery to get mobility in his arms and legs. He needs a nerve transfer on his left shoulder and right arm for better mobility and a chance to lift his arms. This surgery is crucial to his recovery and needs to be performed before his first anniversary of the onset. We still have a long road to recovery in which we will have a lot of ups and downs, but I have faith in God that with everyone's prayers and help, our journey will be successful with helping Sebastian find a new normal in his life. I am reaching out to ask for help for a nerve transfer he desperately needs & to get Sebastian a mobility service dog.
Sebastian was an active, healthy, happy kid. He had just turned 13 and was looking forward to being a typical teenager. Sebastian is STRONG; he has been working extremely hard with therapy. He endures 6 hours of thearpy, 6 days a week and never complains. He does it with a smile and jokes all day long. He loves to play tricks on his favorite nurses, CNAs, and RTs. We want to get him a mobility service dog to help him when he returns home as a person with paraplegia. I know he will undoubtedly make the best of the situation.
We are left with very few options with hundreds of thousands of dollars in doctor bills, specialty treatments, and home modifications.
If you are unable to help financially, please share this and keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you and God bless!
