Sebastian Kellough’s Cancer Fight

Story Updated: June 10th

Sebastian Kellough has been diagnosed with Cancer (Hodgkin's Lymphoma Stage 2B) and he and his family are asking for your support.

On Memorial Day, Sebastian went to a Florida Hospital because he was having trouble breathing and a recent x-ray had shown that he had some fluid on his left lung.

How this Started (Surgery #1) -
Upon entering the ER on Memorial Day morning the doctors did some more test and realized that his left lung was 100% blocked and his right lung was 50% blocked, causing his left lung to collapse. The doctors immediately started a medical procedure that required a tube to be placed in his chest so that the fluid could be removed. After about 45 minutes the doctors called the family back and explained that they had removed more then 4 liters of fluid from his chest area and that the fluid would continue you to drain through the tube. We were all shocked, however what we learned next was even a bigger shock. Sebastian not only had fluid in his lung but he also had a fluid build up around his heart and that if it was not removed it could be fatal. As if this wasn't enough, the doctors then embraced us for the worst news. Because the fluid had been removed they could now get a better scan of his chest, in doing so they notice a pancake size mass in his chest area. This is when we heard the word.... Cancer.

Fluid Around His Heart (Surgery #2) -
After the first surgery, we watched Sebastian fight for every breath as his lungs tried to heal themselves and breath normal again. Aftera ton of prayers, and amazing doctors and nurses, Sebastian fought through it and started breathing better on day 2. Once Sebastian was aware enough we explained to him that there were going to be more surgeries and that a large mass was found in his scans. We then found out on day 3 that the surgery to remove the fluid around his heart was a little to complex for the hospital that we were in and that we needed to be transported to an Orlando hospital about 2 hours from his home.

Once he was transported we met with new doctors and Surgery was set for the next day. The following day doctors took Sebastian in the OR and completed the surgery in about 4 hours. Once the surgery was over, the doctors explained to us that Sebastian was going to need some assistance to breathe and was going to be placed on a ventilator for approx 24 hours to help him recover and heal. This was extremely difficult for us to watch as a family.

IT'S OFFICIAL - CANCER (Hodgkin's lymphoma) -
During the surgery around Sebastians heart, the doctors were able to see the mass and take a biopsy of the mass. 3 days later my wife and I stood in front of a doctor and heard the news.... Your Son, Has Cancer.  We were devastated. Sebastian is only 24 years old and has not had any health issues in the past. NO! WHY? HOW? were just a few questions we asked ourselves as we huddled together as a family and cried.

Why We Are Asking For Support? -
We are asking for support for primarily 3 reasons.

1. No Insurance. Sebastian does not have insurance and the financial impacts of this will be huge. We have been made aware of several federal and state assistant programs but we have been told that there will still be many financial responsibilities to him and our family.

2. Medication. We are working with various programs to help assist in some of this expense, but some medications and chemo treatments are in the thousands of dollars for just one pill. Sebastian is currently using over a dozen medications each day.

3. Temporary Relocation to Orlando. Sebastian is receiving treatment in Orlando Florida which will require our family to be temporary living and traveling often between Orlando and our permanent home location in Charleston SC for the next 60 to 90 days.

Sebastian works in the racing industry and loves technology, music and animals.  He is surrounded by his Father, Mother and Sister and his family is doing everything possible to fight and beat this horrible disease.

We are extremely thankful for your support.
