Sebastian Jiminez-Pina was a kind, outgoing, high-spirited 19 year old boy who recently lost his battle to cancer. At the age of 4, Sebastian was diagnosed with two types of brain cancer: Glioblastoma and Sarcoma. After several years of treatment and surgeries, he entered remission. Sebastian was able to resume “almost” normal life, as he called it, because he couldn’t participate in contact sports, which he adored. He did not let his history with cancer stop him and spent this time excelling in everything he missed out on. Sebastian soared academically and was at the top of his class in school. In 2020, he relapsed and his family relocated to the US from Peru, where he received treatment and remained with his family. Sebastian was a warrior and continued to fight. Sebastian and his family heard about Sunrise Day Camp, a camp for children with cancer and their siblings.Sebastian and his younger brother, Mark, attended Sunrise Day Camp for the first time in 2021. Sebastian, the only new camper in his unit, immediately made friends and made Sunrise his home. Sebastian engaged in every activity with a huge smile on his face, regardless of how he was feeling. Sebastian loved soccer, arts and crafts, swimming in the pool, participating in the talent show, and showing his TTP Pride! Staff and campers alike were drawn to Sebastian’s energy and spirit. He came to camp every day he was well enough, and we are truly honored to have spent his last summer with him as we tried to make life feel as normal as possible.
With a broken heart for all that knew him, we share the sad news that Sebastian lost his battle on April 30th. He was surrounded by his family and love. We would like to ask for donations on behalf of Sebastian’s family to help alleviate financial stress in any way we can. Please join us in assisting his family during this extremely difficult time.
