Family, Brothers and Friends,
With heavy hearts, we come together today to celebrate the life of our beloved brother, Sebastian "Gavião" Acosta. In this moment of profound loss, we remember not just the tragedy of his passing, but the vibrant spirit, unwavering dedication, and profound kindness that defined his life.
During his time at Stony Brook University, Sebastian wore many hats with grace and distinction. His talents as an Event Manager at the Student Activities Center were matched only by his boundless creativity, leaving a lasting impact on every campus event he touched. Sebastian's passion for Capoeira was not just a hobby; it was a way of life. He dedicated his time and energy to the on-campus Capoeira club, sharing his love for this art form with fellow students and leaving an enduring mark on our community.
Within our fraternity, Sebastian's leadership was nothing short of exceptional. He served as Chapter President, guiding our fraternity with wisdom and foresight, and during a critical time for our chapter, Sebastian stepped up as Dean of a pledge class, assuming the role of Chapter leadership when we needed him most. His unwavering commitment to our ideals and his ability to inspire others were unparalleled.
Sebastian was more than a brother; he was a beacon of light within our fraternity, illuminating our path with his passion and commitment. His kindness knew no bounds, his warmth was ever-present, and his spirit, indomitable. Despite his personal struggles, he stood with us, a testament to resilience and strength.
Outside our fraternity, Sebastian was a loving son, a cherished brother, and a revered mentor in the martial arts community in Queens. His influence extended far beyond our immediate circle, touching the lives of all those fortunate enough to know him.
In our shared journey through Phi Iota Alpha, Sebastian embodied the very essence of our fraternity's ideals. His dedication to our mission, his unwavering loyalty to his brothers, and his ability to uplift those around him served as an inspiration to us all. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate his life. Let us honor Sebastian's memory by continuing the work he was so passionate about, supporting one another in times of need, and fostering the sense of brotherhood that was so dear to his heart.
To support Sebastian's family in this difficult time, we are reaching out to our fraternity brothers, friends, and the broader community. We humbly ask for your assistance in raising funds to aid in Sebastian's funeral arrangements. Your generous contributions will not only help us honor his memory but also ease the burden on his family during this heartbreaking moment.
Please consider donating whatever you can. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference. Together, let's ensure that Sebastian's legacy lives on, and that his journey inspires us to be better brothers, better friends, and better human beings.
Thank you for your kindness, your support, and your love during this challenging time. Let us stand united in honoring the remarkable life of our dear brother, Sebastian "Gavião" Acosta.
