Seattle Dojo AED preparedness for SCA
Donation protected
Seattle Dojo is the first Judo Dojo in North America. It was founded early 1900’s in the Seattle International District and has served the community with affordable quality Judo instruction. To this day it remains a non-profit dojo. Our strong group of volunteer instructors are dedicated to the youth and adult members that train at Seattle Dojo and call it home. We are proud of the program that has taught our students perseverance and dedication, fitness and agility, friendship and compassion, self control and self confidence through the sport of Judo. It is now our utmost priority to improve upon this program that has lasted generations, and provide the safest training environment we can for our youth and all members.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the primary cause of death among student athletes, resulting from a sudden malfunction of the heart, halting blood circulation and causing unconsciousness and loss of heart pulse. Sports related SCA accounts for about 40% of SCA cases in those under 18, with approximately 23,000 incidents annually. In the U.S., over 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur each year, with a survival rate of less than 10%. Survival chances decrease by 7-10% per minute without intervention, but prompt CPR and AED use within 2-3 minutes dramatically increases the chance of survival.
Your donations will directly help us obtain and maintain an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) device. As part of our commitment to safety at Seattle Dojo, we will ensure that the AED device is properly stored and maintained for emergency use.
Thank you!
