I am asking for your help on behalf of my beloved friend Brent Terry, who is one of the kindest and funniest people I know. He teaches English and poetry to college students, writes amazing poetry, is a dedicated runner, writes about running and people who run, supports artists and musicians, and looks after several communities of feral cats. His life has been upended by three cataclysmic events in recent times: prostate cancer, trigeminal neuralgia, and eviction after fifteen years in his home. He has just finished radiation and now has to undergo brain surgery. He lives with excruciating pain from a damaged nerve and the best hope of fixing it is brainstem surgery to free the nerve.
Although he has paid his rent faithfully, his landlord does not want someone in recovery on site. Brent is in no condition to move or to work right now, although he has worked through cancer treatments until now. He cannot afford a lawyer to protest the eviction, and will going under the knife and doctor’s orders to rest for several months in mid June. He will stay with his girlfriend until he has recovered from the surgery.
Your generosity will help Brent cover moving and storage expenses, and plan for a new place once he has healed. His daily commute several hours to radiation for six weeks has taken a financial toll as well. He will not be able to work for several months until his oncologist and neurologist okay his progress. Any amount you are moved to give will help with meals, bills, and miscellaneous uncovered medical expenses.
Brent was a steadfast support to me while I went through cancer, Zooming with me often to cheer me up through the worst time of my life. I will consider it a personal favour if you can help. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
