Help support my recovery from a bilateral thoracic lung transplant; also known as a Double Lung Transplant
My name is Sean, a Desert Storm veteran living with my wife, Laura, and our four pets. I have faced several non-service-related lung diseases—including bronchiectasis, ABPA, COPD, and asthma—which have significantly impacted my quality of life. Over the past five years, my condition deteriorated, requiring continuous oxygen therapy and mobility assistance. Multiple hospitalizations due to antibiotic-resistant infections culminated in a life-threatening event in December 2024, resulting in intubation and a coma.
Due to the severity of my lung damage, a double lung transplant was essential to extend my life expectancy. On October 28, I underwent this procedure at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. My recovery involved several weeks in the hospital, multiple chest tubes, and treatment for AFIB.
Post-surgery, I am required to remain in the Seattle area for up to three months for frequent follow-up appointments, including blood tests, imaging, and medication adjustments.
The total cost of a double lung transplant can reach $1.5 million. A major cost is the need to take anti-rejection medication for the rest of my life.
While insurance covers a portion, many expenses remain, including medical, transportation, and relocation costs. Additionally, I lost my job due to a contract change, making employment challenging during recovery.
We urgently seek financial assistance to cover expenses not supported by insurance. Estimated monthly costs include:
- • Housing: $5,000
- • COBRA insurance: $1,500
- • Transportation: $1,000
- • Uncovered medical expenses: $1,500
Laura and I are committed to keeping supporters updated throughout this journey. Thank you for your support.
My greatest wish is to kiss my beautiful wife for another 20 years.
