Bring My Coming Out Story To The Screen
Donation protected
Hi Everyone,
My name is Sean Perez and I'm a multi-hyphenate in the entertainment industry.
I've created a number of projects such as:
- Busy as Usual: The Web Series - won 2 awards, was a finalist in one festival & selected for 8 festivals
- The Confessionist (short film) - won 3 awards, 5 x semi-finalists, 2 x honourable mentions, 8 official selections
- The Stuff (short film) - Yet to be entered into film festivals but already was a finalist in one festival.
So you know I'm not messing around.
I'm embarking on my biggest project to date - Putting my coming out story to the big screen.
STORY
Grew up in a traditional Filipino family. Coming out to anyone wasn't something I ever thought I'd do. I came out to my mother when I was 21 years old. It wasn't planned but was instinctual & in the moment. Due to English being both of our first languages, miscommunication ensued which resulted in a hilarious but sweet story of acceptance.
** This video was actually taken on my drive home later the evening I came out to my mother. So surreal I actually talked to camera even though it was hard to articulate while driving.
WHY?
I need to make this film for a few reasons:
1. Every time I told this story, it was met with so much love and laughter & for years have been encouraged to turn it into "something" as "this story needs to be told" - so here's how we do it - through film.
2. Thankfully we have LGBTQIA+ stories on our screens however not a lot are as diverse as other genres so I want to add diversity so other young LGBTQIA+ humans can celebrate a positive story knowing that it's ok to be who you are and allow Filipinos to see themselves on screen.
3. I want to show actors that creating your own projects are just as powerful as being cast in other people's projects. Especially those that are your own stories and close to your heart.
FUNDING
The funds raised will be used 100% for getting this film made and seen across all major film festivals.
- CAST - No story can be told without a cast - let alone a cast that can tell the story as authentically as possible. To get the cast we would like, we do need to pay them. And actors should be paid for their work.
- CREW - While the audience watches the performance happening on screen, there was another performance happening behind the camera and these amazing people are needed to create all the elements of the film. So they all need to be paid also.
- POST PRODUCTION - Once the film has been shot, we need to put all the elements of the film together so they become one cohesive piece. Things like colour grading, cleaning up sound, editing, etc require hours of man work and they need to be paid too.
- FILM FESTIVALS - Did you know you had to pay to enter film festivals? Neither did I till I had to submit it for the first time. And there's no guarantee to be accepted into each festival you are submitted to. So we need the money to submit to big festivals like Cannes Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival and more. We also hope to be nominated for the Oscars.
But we need your help. Any amount you can provide will help get this further off the ground. We promise you this is a film that will touch your hearts as the original story already has touched so many.
We also have Associate Producer & Producer credits available based on how much you donate starting from $1500.00 USD.
