Sean, You are worthy of happiness and peace of mind

We need help. We don’t know what else to do. We need Sean to know he’s not alone in his struggles.
We have a VERY hard time asking for help. Thats just who Sean & I are. Sean would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need & has come to the rescue too many times to count for people… but now he needs some help….some help that perhaps we should’ve reached out for sooner but once again it’s so hard to let everyone in & become aware of what we’ve been going through the past year & a half. We need to be completely transparent & with that comes some trigger warnings & talk of suicide.
with a big deep breath here we go…
As most of are aware Sean has been off work with a horrible back injury since March 2022. He had originally hurt it at the end of April, came home went to the doctor & physio was sent back to work with “modified” duties which he’s boss said in not so many words either you do this work that wasn’t modified or he might not have a job! (This was after his boss had told Sean originally to “walk it off” in regards to his injury) Sean had no choice but to do work that included pulling hose, climbing ladders, lifting huge metal blades by hand that we frozen to the ground etc etc So as you can imagine this injured his back further.
Sean came home & continued his due diligence with what WCB had set up for him with no date to return to work. For almost 6 months straight all he was offered by WCB was physio; physio that had not ever done anything to help with the pain & rehabilitation. Which even the physiotherapist said wasn’t beneficial at the point he was at injury wise & that it had been more than 6 weeks without any change perhaps even making the injury worse. Sean had reached out several times to WCB with hopes of seeing a specialist as nothing was getting better in regards to his back. WCB wanted him to fly to Vancouver for services but Sean wasn’t able to sit for that long with his injury plus having to lift luggage etc etc it wasn’t feasible. At this time Sean noticed his mental health had begun to suffer. He was spiralling down a dark hole of isolation, anxiety & depression. When he realized what was happening Sean immediately reached out to WCB pleading-begging for mental health help & support. To which their reply was “we see in your medical history you were depressed once 10 years ago so that would be a pre-existing condition we can’t provide help with”. They basically brushed him off. Sean hung up the phone feeling so discouraged after it took all his courage to reach out for help. After this phone call we did everything we could by ourselves to try to get Sean into a counsellor, therapist or psychologist. Many to which our insurance wouldn’t cover or direct bill with their fee starting at $250 an hour. Sean had many phone calls to his doctor, mental health help lines, access 24/7, suicide prevention hotlines, online help groups-you name it he called it reaching out & talking to whomever would listen! He has been BEGGING for support for his life! Seans talk of suicide began to become an everyday thing. The amount of pain he was in from his injury & then dealing with his mental health with no real support or long term help. There have been many times this past year & a half I was worried I’d come home from work to find Sean unalived.
Sean found his amazing specialist through a doctor here for his back. This doctor has been absolutely amazing even with having a lot of issues contacting Seans WCB rep who seems to always be away(don’t get me wrong everyone deserves holidays but shouldn’t you have someone covering your workload?!) Sean has had an MRI which shows 2 bulging disks in his lower back. This specialist has connected Sean to mental health supports but nothing ever concrete could come out of this as you never get to talk to the same psychologist so you have to retell your story over & over again never really moving forward or getting help on issues. To be prescribed any meds for mental health here you have to go through a psychiatrist to get meds prescribed (even for his ADHD) and that takes him right back to the not being able to pay out of pocket & these doctors are even more an hour. As well as trying to get appointments are weeks even in emergency situations. But we did what we had to do to get him into one. Every med he was prescribed for depression (which he’s tried at least as6+ )gave him full suicidal ideation. To the point he had a plan. I can’t tell you how upsetting & heartbreaking this is to see your soulmate go through this all & having to ingibe what life would be without him by my side is something I hope you never ever have to do. I’m sure you can imagine dealing with the pain of his back & depression, anxiety, isolation reaching out on the daily to WCB, his work, his doctors etc etc & not getting anywhere & with no support this all becomes SO overwhelming for Sean & he truly feels defeated & completely lost.
After doing ALOT of research online trying to find some alternative ways to help Sean’s mental health we came upon Ketamine treatments. These treatments are acknowledged by the government as being beneficial & highly effective treatments for depression. Seans amazing specialist put in the referral for him & he was a successful candidate for the treatment! YAY! Our insurance will even pay $1500 of the treatment under the “mental health” umbrella. That being said-each treatment is $600-$1000 that includes the ketamine its self, the psychiatrist lead seasons, nurse to administer & monitor during the treatment. After Seans appointments with the psychologist his $1500 is down to $400 so for his actual dosage & first treatment we have to pay $600 out of pocket & then the full amount after that….Sean has come so far & has been out through so much that if he can’t get the ketamine treatment we don’t know where to go or to turn. The fact that the government recognizes Ketamine treatment is amazing but they don’t know when they’ll start paying for it for clients even though the success rate has been AMAZING. (Please read about this amazing treatment online! It’s allowing people to take their lives back- ketacanada.org)
Hey there! We’re reaching out because Sean truly needs support on his journey to healing—he’s been through so much and your help can make a real difference. Every donation brings him closer to the life-changing ketamine treatments he desperately needs; if you could take a moment to click the link below to donate or share, it would mean the world to us! ❤
SO this is where the GoFund Me comes into play. We humbly are reaching out for help. We are asking for support for Seans treatments. If we can get the $600 for next week Sean can get his first treatment & begin his much deserved road to healthy. Then he’ll most likely have 4-5 treatments in total. It would be such an amazing feeling to be able to give all the money made to the clinic so Sean would know he’s paid up on all those treatments & wouldn’t have that stress on top of everything else he’s dealing with on a daily basis.
If something good has come from this horrible experience is that Sean has become a HUGE advocate for men’s mental health. Even though we’ve made leaps & bounds there’s still a huge amount of stigma especially in certain jobs surrounding men’s mental health. As well as Sean is in a pain clinic now in hopes to help with his back injury & rehabilitation. He just wants to get back to work & be a contributing member or society & back to being happy, truly happy.
We thank you all in advance
if you have any questions or want to know more about this past year & a half has been for us please reach out-we’re open books.
also if you’d rather etransfer instead of going through GoFund Me please feel free to private message myself or Sean directly.
