In Loving Memory of Sean McKenna – A True Legend Gone Too Soon

On August 4th, the Nova Scotia music community lost one of its brightest lights. Sean McKenna, a beloved friend, incredible drummer, and selfless supporter of so many, passed away suddenly in his sleep. He was just days away from his birthday.

Sean wasn’t just a musician — he was the heartbeat of countless shows, bands, and jam sessions across this province. If you’ve played a gig in Nova Scotia, chances are Sean was behind the kit, helping set up, cheering you on, or lending you something with a smile. He gave endlessly — of his time, his talent, his energy, and his heart.

Sean’s partner, Michelle Ryder, is now facing the unimaginable. In addition to the emotional devastation, she is left to navigate this sudden loss alone — without time to prepare, financially or otherwise. We’re asking the community Sean gave so much to, to come together and give back in the way he always did for all of us.

Every donation will go directly to Michelle to help with:

• Funeral and memorial costs

• Immediate living expenses

• Time and space to grieve without financial strain

A celebration of Sean’s life will be held on September 7th at Monte’s, just two days before his birthday. It will be a night of shared stories, laughter, tears, and of course — music. If you knew Sean, you know you’re welcome. He loved you. And he’d want this night to feel like the kind of gathering he always made special: full of warmth, connection, and rhythm.
