Sean McCleary is a father, husband, friend and captain at the Laurel, Montana Fire Department. He is 53.
Near Labor Day weekend of 2021, he was also diagnosed with brain cancer. He had emergency surgery to remove the tumor, not knowing if he would be able to see, communicate, swallow, or walk if he made it through the surgery at all. All of which, he DID!
Since then, he has undergone countless scans and rounds of chemo/radiation.
Life, although more hectic, went on. They married off Kari's oldest son, Kevin, in early May and graduated her youngest, Nick, later in the same month. Sean's three boys, Destry, Colton and Connor continued striving ahead and gaining momentum in their own individual adult lives.
Sean had been out of work and in "recover, rebuild and re-strengthen" mode for nearly 10 months when he was going to be allowed to go back to light duty tasks and earn a paycheck. Fire season was upon us & FIRE has always been Sean's passion. That was June, July, and August. Days were starting to seem/feel more "normal" again. You see, life does not ease up just because cancer finds you. Sean is no stranger to it, after losing his mom, Dona Robson, to breast cancer in 1995 and Gary (Buddha) Robson to Esophageal cancer (among many other health issues) in 2020. He knows the tolls it leaves behind & the determination it takes to continue.
In early September 2022, they confirmed aggressive tumor regrowth.
So near Labor Day weekend 2022, exactly a year down the road, they again performed brain surgery to remove the new tumor(s).
The future is still unknown.
All we know is:
In this family, no one fights alone.
Sean's fight is our fight.
And statistics will NOT determine his future.
We can help with the past year's stresses, burdens and financial obligation anxieties so Sean and Kari can keep looking forward, to a new year, with renewed optimism for his health and further recovery.
They have been blessed with each other, capable and knowledgable doctors & professionals, resilient and encouraging kids & family, positive friends and an abundance of good vibes and continued prayers.
What they need now is to catch a break. To make ends meet & bring their accounts current. To focus on the future with all its uncertainties and to focus on the upcoming holidays.
Funds will be used to do just that.
No amount is too small.
Please donate & join this fight so no one fights alone.
With sincere thanks, Vicki Beeson and Sydnie Bieber
